Dental insurance costs less in premiums compared to health insurance. However, most health insurance has policies that cover a considerable amount of expenses if you have paid your deductible. On the other hand, the coverage of dental insurance has an annual limit from $1000 to $5000 with $50 to $100 deductible. 

While plans cover only 50% of the cost for root canals, crowns, and gum-disease treatment done by in-network dentists, it pays 80%-100% for x-rays, exams, and cleanings. Meanwhile, it does not pay for some procedures like cosmetic dentistry and orthodontia.

Cost limitations cause people to delay their needed procedures although they have dental insurance. Some, on the other hand, neglect care because the procedure is not covered by their insurance, while the others have already maxed out their annual coverage, survey says.
