An eye exam is more important than you think. During a comprehensive eye exam, the doctor reviews your family health history, especially when it comes to eye problems. He also evaluations your vision using an eye chart in order to find out if you're farsighted or nearsighted, or if you have astigmatism. He conducts a series of tests to find out if you have glaucoma or other eye diseases. It is sad that 83% of families earning below the poverty line in the U.S. would include adults and kids who have not had an eye exam for many years. Nonetheless, here are some indications that you should have an eye exam. Bothersome Conditions
If you or your child is suffering from a blurry vision or occasional to frequent nausea and vomiting, then it is time to seek an eye doctor’s services. Go have an eye check-up. In fact, routine check-ups are necessary for children since more than 80% of classroom material is visual. Children should have an eye exam at six months of age, at age three, and by the time he begins school. Adults should have an eye check-up when they feel something is wrong with their vision. It could be an indication of a developing eye disease. Natural Risk Factors Children with risk factors should have their eye exam regularly and frequently during childhood. Risk factors for kids would include premature birth, developmental delays, a family history of eye problems, or high refractive errors. Also, kids who are wearing eyeglasses or contact lenses at present should have an eye check-up every year. For adults, natural risks would include a family history of eye diseases, diabetes, or high blood pressure. Maintenance of Healthy Vision Regardless of whether you have a bothersome eye condition or not, you need to see an eye doctor regularly. Both children and adults should have annual eye check-ups, although the more frequent, the better. Older adults, especially those reaching 61, need to have annual eye exams. This is to guarantee their safety. Outside Risk Factors If you have a visually demanding job or one that strains the eyes over microscopes, telescopes, or very small bits of information or material, then your job may pose a danger to your eyes. In the same way, kids in very tough academic institutions that would make them stare at the computer screen the whole night must have an eye check-up at least twice a year. Having an eye check-up may actually prevent or cure certain eye diseases that may already be in the process of development. Some Final Words Having an eye check-up is very important. Without an eye exam, you will end up in shock at what you might find out later on. The sad thing is that most people have an eye exam when it’s already a little bit too late. Another thing that should make you worry less about your eyes would be your vision insurance. Make sure you get one before you find out you will be needing a serious remedy for your eyes. I haven't gone to see an eye doctor in about five years and I have noticed that things like road signs are starting to get a bit blurry, so I am thinking about getting an eye exam. Thank you for explaining that adults like me should get a check-up at least every year! This seems like a great way for me to find out about any potential problems before they get worse.

My ten-year-old daughter came home from school yesterday complaining that she couldn't see the board during her math class. I think that she may need glasses, so I am planning to take her to get an eye exam. You make a great point that an eye exam is crucial for my daughter because about 80% of classroom material is visual!

Thanks for helping me understand when should someone get their eyes examined. What you said about how having routine eye exams can maintain a healthy vision is something I have not thought of. My mom kept on bothering me to have my eyes checked since I work in front of a computer 5 days a week. I'll consider this and check my schedule for availability.

I thought it was smart that you recommended taking your child to an eye exam when they begin school since 80% of classroom experiences are visual. My nephew has been squinting a lot lately and started kindergarten in September. I think that it might be good if they found an eye doctor in Michigan to take him to this month.

Thanks for helping me learn more about eye exams. Maintaining a perfect 20/20 vision despite not having any eye conditions is a great idea. I should share this with my brother so he can consider sending his kid for an eye exam.

It's good to know that you should see an eye doctor if you are experiencing blurry vision and nausea. For the past couple of weeks, I have been feeling super nauseous, and my eyesight has been blurry, and I was wondering if that was a sign that something is wrong. I'll have to look into finding an eye doctor to see for an eye exam as soon as possible.

I found it helpful that you should consider getting an eye exam every year to ensure your safety if you are the age of 61 or older. My uncle has been unable to drive home from work at night since his blurry vision prevents him from reading signs in the dark. Maybe I should help him find a professional that can help ensure that his eyes are healthy.

Thanks for pointing out that getting an eye exam will be necessary whether you have an existing issue or not. As you said, this should be done annually. I guess I need to find a doctor that I can trust to get my family's eyes checked every year since we've never done that ever since we moved into this neighborhood two years ago.

Thank you for explaining that it is advisable to have a regular eye checkup regardless of whether you have an alarming eye condition or not. My cousin is presuming that she may have an eye floater that's why she's getting blurry vision. I think it's best to see a specialist first for an eye exam and evaluate if she needs eye floater removal surgery.

I love how you talk about how different situations can all for differing times a person should come in for a check-up. My partner and I recently moved and I need to get eye exams semi-regularly so we've been looking into finding a nearby optometrist. Knowing how often we need to go in based on our potential risks is a great thing to keep in mind.
