Medicare covers a lot of medical costs for people who have certain medical conditions or disabilities. While this is undoubtedly beneficial, there are also other preventive measures available in the Medicare Part B that can be enjoyed by the consumers to help them stay healthy. Below are some of the most overlooked Medicare benefits: Welcome Visits
The Welcome to Medicare Visit is offered to new customers that are available within the first 12 months of enrollment. During this visit, the doctor will evaluate your medical history, check your vital signs, update your preventive screenings, and schedule further tests if necessary. Annual Visits The Annual Wellness Visit, on the other hand, is a yearly appointment contrary to the one-time Welcome Visit. During this visit, you talk to your physician to create or update your health care plan. Your annual visits may also include getting certain shots and screenings, vital signs measurement, vision tests, and body mass index calculation. However, you cannot receive your Annual Wellness Visit on the same year as you made your Welcome to Medicare Visit. Alcohol Misuse Counseling Your plan covers an alcohol misuse screening yearly to identify, manage, and treat alcohol misuse. You do not have to show signs of alcohol misuse to be eligible for testing, but your physician must determine that you are misusing alcohol to become available for counseling. Depression Screening Medicare Part B also offers individuals a fully-covered annual depression screening. The screening must be in a primary care setting and should provide you with follow-up treatments and referrals as necessary. You do not need to display signs of depression to qualify for screening. Weight Loss Advisory For individuals with a body mass index of 30 or higher, Medicare offers weight loss counseling. For them to cover your advice, the diagnosis must come from a primary care setting like a doctor’s office. As the doctor diagnoses you as obese, Medicare will cover one visit per week for the first month and one visit every other week for the next five months. Nutrition Therapy Medicare covers nutrition therapy for people who have diabetes, kidney disease, or have had a kidney transplant in the last 36 months. This services that this offers include a nutrition & lifestyle assessment, individual & group therapy services, and follow-up visits to check your progress.
