Medicare Advantage plan has a new Open Enrollment Period. During this period, seniors under this plan can change to a different Advantage Plan. They may also drop their Medicare Advantage and use Original Medicare. Seniors may also sign up for a plan called a Part D. This is for seniors currently enrolled in an MAPD plan and dropping this to take Original Medicare. Finally, they may also lose their Part D plan. Understand Your Medicare Advantage Plan
Also called Medicare Part C, the Advantage Plan is private insurance similar to Original Medicare. These plans have almost the same benefits as Medicare Part A and Part B with additional coverage for prescription drugs. The Medicare Advantage works just like any insurance plan in a way that you can choose the plan that will best fit your needs. There are some flaws to the Medicare Advantage plan as well. These may not have coverage for your insurance provider, or you may not be able to choose your doctor or specialist. Medicare Advantage is non-standardized, so this means that you may pay for more, or less, depending on where you’re located, your ideal plan and the network you picked. If you think that these flaws are too much, you may switch to an Original Medicare instead. Learn About Original Medicare Original Medicare includes Medicare Part A, and Part B. Part A is all your in-patient expenses while Part B is all your outpatient expenses. When you don’t have an Original Medicare, you need to pay for these medical services out of your pocket. Many seniors prefer Original Medicare since they can consult any physician that honors Medicare. More variety improves your chances to get the best treatment for your illness. About Medicare Supplements The changes made on the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Plan do not affect Supplement plans. Seniors may switch, enroll, or stop supplement plans any time they wish. More beneficiaries agree that a combination of an Original Medicare, Medicare Supplement plan and a Part D offers the best coverage. Underwriting Advantage Plans Seniors must use a medical underwriting service to be approved for the Advantage plan. If a senior wants to drop Advantage and use Original Medicine plus a Medicare Supplement plan, an underwriting process must also be done before approval.
